Summary

U.S. – China talks resume

U.S. – China talks due to resume today as U.S. delegation meet counterparts in China. Investor focus is again on U.S. Federal Reserve interest rate decision due tomorrow 31st July 2019. Asian markets slip.

Sterling slides again. Uber, Centrica, Greggs, BP & SONY report

Sterling continues to struggle. Uber reported to be reducing marketing staff. Centrica shares drop as dividend is cut. Centrica shares fall to: 74.90 on 30th July 2019 at: 13:45 BST – down 16pts. Profits up at Greggs bakery.

BP profit for Q2 unchanged from previous year on lower oil prices. Sony reports a good first quarter.

Reckitt Benckiser, Huawei & CYBG bank

Reckitt Benckiser – cut sales growth forecast for the year after weaker trading results to June. Huawei reported rise in sales despite backdrop of U.S. trading restrictions. CYBG – the Clydesdale and Yorkshire bank shares fall after trade update.

Market sentiment – DAX down

EU and UK economic sentiment slips. President Trump tweets about China/U.S. deal… tweet knocks market sentiment. DAX down over 280 pts as at: 14:10 30th July 2019 – that’s nearly a 2.5% fall!

U.S. Commerce Department – consumer spending increased by 0.3% in June 2019 – represents more than two-thirds of U.S. economic activity. Trump again urges Fed to cut interest rates.

A woman has been arrested after a data breach at Capital One bank – believed to be one of the largest in banking history!
