Trump trumpets triumphs

U.S. President Donald Trump yesterday used the World Economic Forum (WEF) at Davos to remind us of his success!

Trump used the ‘global’ economic platform – (WEF) – to tout trade deals for U.S. Inc. and schmooze the business world elite to place his America first message back in the limelight.

America first…again!

Needless to say his ‘America first speech’ didn’t go down well. But, guess what – we all heard his message – even if he was quickly criticised for not showing respect for the ‘climate change activists’ after calling them, ‘scaremongers’ and ‘prophets of doom’.

The elite

The Davos gathering of the ‘elite’ this year are focusing on how world economies (business and governments) need to act to save the planet. So, Trump’s U.S. ‘comes first’ approach didn’t quite fit this ‘lets do good’ for the world environment.

This was more akin to an early election campaign speech and an attempt to deflection attention from his impeachment that was due to start on Tuesday 21st January in the U.S. Senate.

Trump asks for optimism

Trump rejected calls for urgent action and asked the world to instead embrace ‘optimism’.

He was reported to have said, ‘to embrace the possibilities of tomorrow, we must reject the perennial prophets of doom and their predictions of the apocalypse. He went on… ‘They are the errors of yesterday’s fortune tellers and we have them and I have them and they want to see us do badly, but we don’t let that happen‘.

Trillion trees

Trump did say however, that he was happy to join the trillion tree planting initiative. That’s good then – lets all go plant some trees and save the world instead!

Trump’s Tuesday message from Davos

Trump said on Tuesday 22nd January 2020 at Davos that U.S. GDP would be near 4% and the Dow would be up 5,000 – 10,000 points if it wasn’t for the Fed.

He also said that the EU has ‘no choice’ but to agree a new trade deal and that the World Trade Organisation (WTO) needs to be reformed.
